Need help keeping motivated to swim over the winter??
Winter Swim is just the answer! A swimming competition to help keep you motivated over the winter and the winner of the competition isn't necessarily the fastest person, it is the the person who gains the most performance increase over the competition period.
How does this work?
It works like this, you swim 400m as a "base time", this time is then converted into a percentage of the Olympic record for your gender based on front crawl. There are then 6 rounds covering distances from 100m - 1500m and these are converted into percentages of the Olympic records before the final round where you swim another 400m.
Each round you swim your performance gain is measured based on your best percentage of the Olympic record. The points will be allocated based on the number of competitors, first person will get the highest number of points etc.
When are the rounds?
The round dates are:
400m base time before 24/12/2023
Round 1 - 100m - 25/12/2023 - 7/1/2024
Round 2 - 200m - 8/1/2024 - 21/1/2024
Round 3 - 400m - 22/1/2024 - 4/2/2024
Round 4 - 800m - 5/2/2024 - 18/2/2024
Round 5 - 1500m - 19/2/2024 - 3/3/2024
Round 6 - 400m - 4/3/2024 - 17/3/2024
You are only cheating yourself if you don’t swim your base time as fast as you can.
How do I submit my times?
Every 2 weeks a new Google Form will be shared to allow you to enter your own times for that round. Each round closes at 10pm on the Sunday, any times attempted to be entered after this will not be counted there will be NO exceptions. You can swim the distance & input your time on as many times as you want we will only use the fastest time.
Please ensure that you only submit a time that you actually swim, don't guesstimate a time. If you are unable to swim a time then just miss out that round and carry on with the next round. You have to submit a 400m base time before Round 1 Starts to be able enter a Round 1 Time.
How does the scoring work?
There will be six scoring rounds this winter, each round will last for two weeks and run from Monday to Sunday.
Rounds 1-5 will cover the six swimming distances (100m-1500m) and in the final round we'll return to 400m. Entries will close at 22.00 (10pm) on Sunday (UK Time) and the next round will start immediately from that point.
Who does the timing?
• You do. Winter Swim is all about you and your times, so you record you own times
Can I use a 50m pool?
• Yes. It doesn't matter if you use a 25m pool or a 50m pool as you are only really competing against yourself. However it is best to try and record all your times in the same length pool.
How is the difference in percentage calculated for each round?
• The difference between your percentage score for that round and your previous best percentage score will give you your difference for that round. It is always calculated on your previous best (lowest) percentage. For Example: if your base time percentage was 130% and your Round 1 percentage was 120%, then your Round 2 difference is calculated based on your Round 1 percentage of 120%.
How are Points awarded?
• Points are awarded for each scoring round, 1st place will get highest points dependent on the number of people that take part
